Women’s Economic Empowerment: FAIR Distributes Craft Materials to Marginalized Women

Promoting Women’s Economic Empowerment Through Hands-On Training

Women’s economic empowerment was again brought into focus on April 26, 2025, as the Friends Association for Integrated Revolution (FAIR), with support from the Bangladesh NGO Foundation (BNF), organized a training completion and material distribution event under its “Entrepreneurship Development Program.”

The initiative specifically targeted marginalized women — including widows, persons with disabilities, and women from Dalit communities — to enhance their capacity for income generation through traditional crafts.

FAIR’s Director (Chief Executive), Dewan Akhtaruzzaman, personally attended the event and distributed handcrafted product-making materials such as jute, macrame threads, and other essential crafting supplies to the ten participating women.

Uplifting Voices: Empowering Women Through Creativity and Skills

In his remarks, Dewan Akhtaruzzaman emphasized the vision behind this initiative:

“The main goal of this program is to help women become financially independent and increase their entrepreneurial capacity. Women’s economic empowerment is the key to building a more equitable and prosperous society.”

He highlighted the importance of managing household income and cultivating a strong saving habit to ensure long-term stability. He further added:

“Craft-making is a creative industry. With focus and patience, it is entirely possible to create world-class handicrafts. Marginalized women in our country are enriching this industry with their skilled hands.”

Over the past four months, these ten women underwent intensive, hands-on training in various forms of craft-making. The program focused on the production of jute-based items, macrame-thread home décor and bags, and kushi-kata products. After the successful completion of this specialized training, the event concluded with the distribution of essential tools and materials to support their continued growth as entrepreneurs.

Building Inclusive Economies through Grassroots Interventions

This initiative is part of FAIR’s long-standing commitment to the financial and social advancement of underprivileged communities. The organization continues to support local entrepreneurship and skill-building initiatives to ensure sustainable empowerment.

The successful execution of the event was made possible through the collective efforts of FAIR team members AKM Harisul Alam Johnny, Shawon Ahmed, Tutul Ali, Robin Kumar Das, and Rumana Khatun. As FAIR continues to expand its women-focused initiatives, this effort reinforces the message that supporting women’s economic empowerment is not only essential for individual transformation but also for building stronger, more inclusive communities.
