Success Story: How Zakat for Poor & Needy Transformed Baby Khatun’s Life

Zakat for Poor & Needy: The Transformation of Baby Khatun Your Zakat for Poor & Needy has the power to change lives, as seen in the story of Baby Khatun, a once landless and struggling mother from the Char-Thanapara area of Kushtia. Her journey from selling cakes under the open sky on a broken table to owning a modern mobile food van was made possible by your Zakat and technical support from FAIR. Baby’s story is a testament to how sustainable rehabilitation can lead a family out of darkness and into a brighter future.

A Life Shrouded in Darkness and Struggle

Baby Khatun, a resident of the Char-Thanapara slum in Kushtia, faced a reality that was far from easy. With a family of six members and a husband who was too ill to work, the entire burden of survival rested on her shoulders. Having no land or assets, she lived in a tiny shanty on government-owned land. The daily struggle to fund her children’s education and her husband’s medical treatment was overwhelming. It was in this desperate hour that the impact of Zakat for Poor & Needy became her only ray of hope.

From an Uncertain Table to Sustainable Income

To keep her family from starving, Baby used to sell seasonal rice cakes (pithas) on a broken table by the banks of the Gorai River. However, selling in an open environment meant her food was constantly exposed to dust and unhygienic conditions, which kept customers away. During the off-season, she was often left with no income, leaving her large family to face hunger. At FAIR, we believe that the Best Way to Give Zakat is to provide tools for self-reliance. We encourage donors to Give Zakat Wisely by investing in the long-term dignity of the underprivileged.

FAIR Zakat Fund: A New Chapter of Empowerment

During her most critical time, the human rights and development organization FAIR, with support from the Bangladesh NGO Foundation, stepped in. Under the Zakat for Livelihood Projects, Baby was provided with a modern mobile food van. This van was not just a vehicle; it was the engine of her transformation. With hygienic glass racks, her food is now safe from dust and germs, ensuring 100% health safety for her customers. As we aim to Empower the Poor with Zakat, Baby has successfully transitioned from an uncertain seasonal seller to a permanent entrepreneur.

The Current Success: Islamic Charity for Widows & Struggling Mothers

Today, Baby Khatun’s daily sales and income have increased several times over. She is now able to afford her husband’s medical expenses and is proudly funding her children’s education to ensure they have a better future.

“I used to stay awake at night worrying about our next meal. Now, I serve my customers in a clean environment from my own van. My income and respect in society have both grown. I can finally take care of my sick husband and my children’s education on my own.”Baby Khatun

Donate Zakat: The Key to Permanent Freedom from Poverty

Baby Khatun’s transformation was made possible by timely and effective support. There are thousands of “Babys” in our community who are not looking for a handout but for an opportunity. Your Zakat for Orphans & Widows and struggling mothers can be the tool that breaks their cycle of poverty.

A Heartfelt Appeal: Every year, many give Zakat in the form of clothes like sarees or lungis, which provides only temporary relief. But if your Zakat is delivered through the FAIR Zakat Fund as a sewing machine, a mobile van, or small business capital, a family can become self-reliant for life. Your decision can transform a “Zakat receiver” into a “Zakat giver” of the future.
