Summary

At the beginning of winter every year FAIR provides winter clothes specially blankets to poor families to keep them warm. This project will help 400/500 poor families specially persons with disabilities, Dalit and ethnic minority people to fight against severe cold wave and keep them safe from cold-related diseases. Due to climate change, the intensity of winter in Bangladesh is increasing every year. As a result, the hard working helpless poor people suffer from severe cold wave. Due to lack of warm clothes in winter, most of the elderly people and children become victim of fever, cold and cough.

The challenge

In Kushtia area, a large number of persons with disabilities, Dalit and ethnic minority people live. They are victims of social and caste discrimination. For various reasons, they are always excluded from receiving government and non-government services. Poverty rates have also risen due to the impact of Covid 19.

In this context, one of the major challenges is to protect the victims of these social and racial discriminated poor people, especially elderly and children, from the health risks during the severe cold wave.

Solution

Since its inception in 1998, Fair has been providing warm blankets to the marginalized poor people including persons with disabilities, Dalit and ethnic minority people to provide them some relief from the severe cold wave. This project will help to provide new warm clothes (blankets and sweaters) to 400/500 poor families every year especially for the elderly and children.

We believe that the problems that affect the lives of poor people can be addressed through concentrated efforts.

Long-Term Impact

It helps poor people reduce long-term vulnerabilities and protect against health risks; Helps to lead a dignified life; Helps them to grow up safely and enjoy life as citizens of Bangladesh.

প্রান্তিক দরিদ্র মানুষের জন্য গরম কাপড়

সারসংক্ষেপ

ফেয়ার প্রতিবছর শীতের প্রারম্ভে দরিদ্র পরিবারকে শীতের পোশাক (কম্বল) প্রদান করে তাদের জীবনকে নিরাপদ রাখতে সহায়তা করে। এই প্রকল্পটি ৪০০/৫০০ টি গরিব পরিবারকে বিশেষ করে প্রতিবন্ধী, দলিত ও আদিবাসী ব্যক্তিদের প্রচন্ড ঠান্ডার সাথে লড়াই করতে এবং ঠান্ডাজনিত রোগ থেকে নিরাপদ রাখতে সহায়তা করবে। জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের কারণে বাংলাদেশে প্রতিবছর তীতের তীব্রতা বৃদ্ধি পাচ্ছে। ফলে শীতের এই তীব্রতায় কষ্ট পায়  খেটে খাওয়া অসহায় দরিদ্র মানুষেরা। শীতকালে গরম কাপড়ের অভাবে বেশিরভাগ বয়স্ক ব্যক্তি ও শিশুরা জ্বর, সর্দি, কাশিতে আক্রান্ত হয়।

চ্যালেঞ্জ

কুষ্টিয়া অঞ্চলে প্রচুর সংখ্যাক প্রতিবন্ধী, দলিত ও আদিবাসী মানুষের বসবাস। এরা সামাজিক ও বর্ণ বৈষ্যমের শিকার। নানা কারণে এরা সরকারিসহ বেসরকারি পরিষেবা প্রাপ্তি থেকে সব সময় বাদ পড়ে যায়। এছাড়াও কোভিড ১৯ এর প্রভাবের কারণে কর্মহীন হয়ে দারিদ্র্যের হারও বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে। 

এমতাবস্থায়, প্রচন্ড শীতের সময় এইসকল সামাজিক ও বর্ণ বৈষ্যমের শিকার ও দরিদ্র মানুষদের বিশেষ করে বয়স্ক ব্যক্তি ও শিশুদের স্বাস্থ্য ঝুঁকি থেকে সুরক্ষা প্রদান করাই অন্যতম চ্যালেঞ্জ।

সমাধান

ফেয়ার তার প্রতিষ্ঠা লগ্ন ১৯৯৮ সাল থেকে প্রান্তিক গরিব মানুষদের বিশেষ করে প্রতিবন্ধী, দলিত ব্যক্তিদের শীতের প্রকট থেকে একটু আরাম দেওয়ার উদ্দেশ্যে গরম কাপড় (কম্বল) প্রদান করে আসছে। এই প্রকল্পটি প্রতিবছর ৪০০/৫০০ দরিদ্র পরিবারকে বিশেষ করে বয়স্ক ব্যক্তি ও শিশুদের জন্য নতুন গরম কাপড় (কম্বল ও সোয়েটার) সরবরাহ করতে সাহায্য করবে।

আমরা বিশ্বাস করি গরিব মানুষদের জীবনকে প্রভাবিত করে এমন সমস্যাগুলি সম্মিলিত প্রচেষ্টায় মোকাবেলা করা সম্ভব।

দীর্ঘমেয়াদী প্রভাব

এটি গরিব মানুষদের দীর্ঘমেয়াদী দুর্বলতা হ্রাস করতে ও স্বাস্থ্য ঝুঁকি থেকে সুরক্ষা প্রদানে সহায়তা করে; সম্মানজনক জীবনযাপন করতে সহায়তা করে; তারা নিরাপদে বেড়ে ওঠে বাংলাদেশের নাগরিক হিসেবে জীবন উপভোগ করে।
