In the humble village of Daspara, nestled within the town of Kumarkhali Durgpur Kazipara, lived Hriday Kumar Das. Born into a poor Dalit family, Hriday faced formidable obstacles that threatened to obstruct his education and aspirations. Yet, through unwavering determination, resilience, and the support of a life-altering educational initiative implemented by FAIR, a nonprofit NGO, Hriday transcended these challenges, forging an extraordinary path towards success.
Hriday’s father, Ashok Kumar Das, earned a living as a bamboo-cane basket maker and sounder, while his mother, Nisha Rani Das, devoted herself to their family. Despite the financial hardships they endured, the Das family recognized the pivotal role of education for poor. However, the lack of finances compelled them to halt Hriday’s education, casting a shadow over his dreams.
In 2007, a glimmer of hope emerged for Hriday when he gained admission to a special project designed to combat the dropout rates among Dalit students. This initiative, spearheaded by FAIR not only sought to address the issue of education for poor discontinuity but also aimed to elevate the quality of education provided to marginalized students, recognizing the vitality of empowering Dalits.
Under the tutelage of a dedicated female teacher appointed by FAIR, Hriday received two times a day of instruction and care at the education for poor center. This nurturing environment not only accelerated his academic progress but also nurtured his self-belief and determination to transcend his circumstances. Hriday persevered, learning the center until 2012 and successfully completing his primary and secondary education in Kumarkhali.
Buoyed by newfound zeal for learning, Hriday set his sights higher. He enrolled at the Feni Computer Institute, embarking on a journey to obtain a Diploma in Computer Science. Undeterred by the obstacles that lay ahead, Hriday showcased remarkable aptitude in the subject and graduated with distinction, defying the limitations that society often imposes on marginalized individuals.
Hriday’s thirst for knowledge remains unquenched as he continues his educational voyage, currently pursuing a B.Sc. in Computer Science at Dhaka Northern University. Yet, Hriday’s aspirations extend beyond his personal achievements. He also embraces the opportunity to work at Galaxtune Limited Company in Dhaka, honing his skills and acquiring practical experience, while channeling his efforts towards uplifting his community and creating a more equitable society.
Hriday Kumar Das’s story serves as a beacon of inspiration to countless marginalized students who confront similar adversities. His transformative journey highlights the immense power of education for poor in breaking the cycle of poverty and inequality. It underscores the significance of organizations like FAIR, whose tireless efforts enable Dalit students to overcome barriers and unleash their potential. Hriday’s remarkable odyssey illuminates the indomitable spirit and unwavering determination that can propel individuals from marginalized backgrounds toward greatness, as they surmount challenges, fulfill their dreams, and inspire others along the way.
